Green Tree PythonColours The main colour variety is green with white, brown or black. But some are blue or yellow, although these are rarer. Housing Green tree pythons are not that active and can be happily housed in a tank of 24³ made out of plastic. Provide them with a flourecent light 10 hours a day all year round. Natural wood branches can be attched to the sides of the tank in such a manner that they can be removed during cleaning. You should keep them at a tempreture of 85-78 F in the summer and 85-65 F in the winter. For humidity you should spray the tank daily with water. This is also for drinking because they will only take droplets of water. Feeding In the wild Green Tree Pythons feed on lizards, birds and small mammals. They eat their food in the typical python way, which is constricting. In captivity offer them warm dead rats on forceps in the evening. Green Tree Pythons are generally fed every 10-14 days. They can go off food for up to 5 months! Even so you must check they are not obese (fat). Breeding When breeding them the best way to hatch the eggs is artificial incubation. |
